Finally, Some Fallout for Anti-Christian Bias

Liberty Counsel notes today:

Gene R. Nichol, the controversial president of the College of William and Mary, submitted a resignation letter yesterday after receiving notice that his contract would not be renewed by the College’s Board of Visitors.

Several appointees to the Board who were pending reconfirmation recently appeared at hearings before the Virginia House of Delegates' Privileges and Elections Committee. During the hearings, Nichol was strongly criticized for controversial decisions during his short reign as president, including his removal of the cross from Wren Chapel, the resulting loss of a $12 million gift and allowing students to host a "Sex Workers’ Art Show."

The controversies began in October 2006, when Nichol announced that the brass cross that stood in Wren Chapel for 75 years would be removed. Liberty Counsel sent a letter to President Nichol and the university chancellor, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, stating that the removal was unnecessary and unconstitutional, and urging that the cross be returned.

There really is no reason that organizations need to secularize themselves -- especially private ones like CWM. If no one stands up against the ACLU's aggression, Christianity will be forced out of the public square altogether. That is why it is good to see someone pay a price for such pre-emptive paranoia and disregard for Christian heritage and symbolism.

Here are links to some of the articles and websites cited for our Hot Topics Bible Study
Topic 1 on Postmodernism

The Myth of Neutrality By Jay Wegter

A Reformed Baptist ministry poses this interesting and systematic discussion of why there can be no true neutrality. Nearly a post-modern attack against post-modern attacks on Christianity.

Christian Century: Blind spots: Christianity and postmodern philosophy

Excessively academic and difficult to read, but makes a case for using post-modernism as an entrance point for evangelism because it restores the doctrine of original sin.

Multiculturalism, Catholicism, and American Civilization JOSEPH A. VARACALLI
Good article, but naively proposes that multiculturalism can be used as a tool to advance Catholic perspective.

The Truth about Human Nature

perspecive on human nature through the lens of Dawkins' Selfish Gene -- note the bigoted Eugenics conversation in the comments.

What will you wear at the wedding

Will you wear robbing of fine linen, or filthy rags, to the wedding feast? The bible tells us of only two types of righteousness that we can be robed in:

One is a righteousness that we are granted as we are told in (Rev 19:8 KJV) And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The other is a righteousness that we think we have earned ourselves as we read in (Isa 64:6 KJV) But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

And besides all of this, we are told that if we try to crash the wedding with out the proper robbing we will be kicked out as we read in Matthew.

(Mat 22:9 KJV) Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. (Mat 22:10 KJV) So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. (Mat 22:11 KJV) And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: (Mat 22:12 KJV) And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. (Mat 22:13 KJV) Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Mat 22:14 KJV) For many are called, but few are chosen.

Yes we have a choice for the wedding. Either accepting God’s robbing of righteousness or try to crash the wedding with our own righteousnesses. What do you want to do?

New Podcasts

Sunday's Sermon, for the celebration of the Transfiguration of our Lord, discussed how the transfiguration related to Peter's confession, Christ's prediction of His death and the theology of the cross.

Sunday Bible Class continued work on the book of Revelation. We discussed the difference between the titles that John uses, Lamb of God and Son of Man.

God's Darkness

Did you know that God has veiled the earth in darkness in the past? The bible tells of this in: (Exo 10:21 KJV) And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. (Exo 10:22 KJV) And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: (Exo 10:23 KJV) They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. But the worst darkness occurred when Christ was on the cross.

Have you ever wondered why God caused darkness for three hours when His Son was “made sin” for us? For scriptures tells us that (2 Cor 5:21 KJV) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. and (Mat 27:45 KJV) Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. The sixth hour is noon and the ninth hour is 3 PM so this darkness lasted for three hours. This darkness was not a solar eclipse for the moon was full because the Passover was the day after Christ died. Also there is still light from the sun’s atmosphere when the brighter photosphere is blacked out by the moon during a solar eclipse as shown below:

No, this darkness was supernatural and so grave and intense that after three hours of it, our Lord cried out in despair as is recorded in: (Mat 27:46 KJV). And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

After studying Habakkuk, I now believe that God veiled the earth in this special darkness in order to hide Himself from this terrible sin of mankind that was put onto our Lord. For there is a verse in Habakkuk that tells us that God cannot look upon that which is sinful: (Hab 1:13 KJV) Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? If this is true, just think of how terrible it would be to be hidden from God for eternity in a darkness so great that you would never see our glorious God.

When inculturation goes wrong

"If Jesus walked the earth today, he would be a rapper."--The Rt. Rev. Catherine Roskam.

Psalm 23 as adapted by Ryan Kearse
The Lord is all that, I need for nothing.
He allows me to chill.
He keeps me from being heated
and allows me to breathe easy.
He guides my life so that
I can represent and give
shouts out in his Name.
And even though I walk through
the Hood of death,
I don't back down
for you have my back.
The fact that you have me covered
allows me to chill.
He provides me with back-up
in front of my player-haters
and I know that I am a baller
and life will be phat.
I fall back in the Lord's crib
for the rest of my life.

The return of the battleship

Many have speculated that naval warfare is a thing of the past, but the technology previewed by Popular Science and demonstrated here show promise of a new weapon that can make a destroyer like a cruise missile machine gun. A few problems need to be solved, but the potential for rail gun toting destroyers may extend the Navy's reach 200 miles inland. At that range it's hard to aim artillery, but once we have the electronic guidance that can survive the 45,000 G's of force as the gun fires the cruise missile will be effectively obsolete.
Some of the other technical issues are how to deal with the great forces involved, how to prevent the rails from welding, pitting or melting, how to cool the system, etc. but in the end it may turn out the be a piece of the future of naval warfare.
