While studying Jeremiah today my thoughts fell on the words valiant and truth in (Jer 9:3 KJV) And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
These Jews were not valiant for the truth. The word valiant translates a Hebrew word (#1396 in the Strong’s concordance) that means “to be strong”. So these Jews were not strong for the truth.
This same Hebrew word is translated prevail in Genesis where we read (Gen 7:20 KJV) Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. The great Flood was slow in coming but when it did come it’s strength over came even the mighty mountains of the earth.
This shows that God’s word is of the truth for earlier He tells Noah (Gen 6:17 KJV) And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
In the hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” we sing “But for us fights the Valiant One”. This Valiant One is Christ who also declares that He is the Truth in (John 14:6 KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
And even though it seems He is slow in coming, just as the great flood was, when He comes He will prevail and be valiant for the truth over all the earth.
